The future of NovaFFL after season 1.
I sit here in my nice window office at work finding myself with nothing to do as usual. And I say to myself “What is going to happen after the season is over with?” Now this seems to be a very legit question and I’m sure everyone is going to have their own take on the matter. It is an interesting question though because there is so much to talk about. What teams will stay together? There is already dissention amongst several teams, it’s just a little more hidden on some, and a little more open on others.
You also have to realize that some players will want to try something new with other players. Sort of like doing collaborations between musical artists. Just think of the possibility of having Jason putting one up to WB (when Jason actually intends to throw it to him, not off a pick lol). Or having Rum and Gene on the same D-Line. That would be very scary indeed. The possibilities are out there, so off-season moves should definitely be interesting. The question is if teams want to start doing collabo’s as has become the trend in the music scene over the past few years or is it going to stay homogenous as was the way back in the days of the 50’s-70’s (I could be wrong about that time frame actually considering I’m a younging, and not old enough to get on the Geriatric scene, which brings us to…)
You also have certain Mastiff’s that are attempting to create an all old people all-star team. Now this itself would be pretty interesting, but a serious question would be of the health and durability of the Geriatric Gentleman-players placed collectively onto one team. Now throughout the league there are old people, but they are spread out pretty well across all teams. These guys can indeed get it done when they are with their younger counterparts, but can they do it with others of age??? Would this team have the endurance to make it the whole season without breaking their hips, or falling apart in some other way? Or would they still have enough in them to show us young whipper snappers how it’s done? I suggest oxygen tanks and walkers at the field if this team comes together!
Something else to consider is the expansion of the league.
Obviously certain teams shouldn’t have been allowed into the league this season (Merk’s, Ext’s).Their credibility to field a full COMPETITIVE squad for the entire season should have been checked beforehand. But no crying over spilled milk now. However, some teams turned out to be highly competitive and fit right in with other high caliber Nova teams (Hawks). The question remains, will these teams be allowed back in or replaced. Obviously the Hawks will be invited back to play again, but are they here to just dominate for 1 season and then sail off into the sunset like Viking invaders, or do they want to stick around and have a shot at a dynasty? Also, how many more teams will be allowed into the league? We obviously don’t want more garbage teams to be allowed into the league so we have to have some way of checking their dedication to the league. Maybe enforcing a pre-season rule this time around? Keeping NovaFFL a top tier league should definitely be one of the priorities of league officials.
Now here is my favorite topic of all probably. Expanding the games to 8 vs. 8. I voted for this in the pre-season but due to concerns about having enough players to field every week we agreed to 7. Now the first half or so of the season it was obvious that most teams were able to field 7 and have plenty of subs on the sideline. This definitely diminished playing time for many people. The past couple weeks have shown how difficult it can be for a team to field only 7 players due to injuries and the weather. I think with the next league being played in more pleasant weather we should be able to play 8’s easily. It opens up the game up to more dynamic offensive and defensive play calling. Truly exciting material for someone like myself who draws up X’s and O’s on a regular basis.
Well that’s enough of my rant for the day…hope you all enjoyed the article!
