WASHINGTON, DC—A fleecee is one how has just been dramatically fleeced—as in “sheering the sheep of his woolly coat,” according to the Random House Dictionary of the English Language. He/she has been deprived of money or belongings by Fraud, Coma, Hoax, or the like: Swindled and stripped of all human dignity, if only for one long painful moment that will never be gone from his or her memory. Being fleeced and humiliated right in front of all your friends and peers and loved ones is every football player’s most horrible fear. But being fleeced and saying nothing about it is like being stripped naked on a street not far from the Polo Fields, and forced to walk, run, or slither all alone across the Potomac. And Bubba, that’s exactly what’s going on right in front of us in the Northern Virginia Flag Football League (NovaFFL) as you read this.
There’s a movement underfoot to give players to the lowly Merks to supposedly make them more competitive. What the hell is going on here? How could this once-proud league have changed so much, so drastically, in only three weeks? This is quite possibly the worst idea this league has ever come up with, and the fact that veteran NovaFFL players are in favor of this idea is alarming. Ty of Team Conquest said it best: “I don't think the Chargers were looking to ‘help out’ the Raiders with all their problems this season.
You don't see USC helping out Stanford with coaches and players.” Kingdoms fall, empires crumble, powerful nations come and go… but following this “equality” philosophy will be the downfall of NovaFFl. I now sit around my fortified compound in Loudoun County, VA waiting for the Axe to fall. Buy the ticket, take the ride… that’s my personal motto, and it’s got me to where I am today. We can’t help that the Merks came into the league unprepared; it’s their job to make themselves a competitive team. As I said before, if the Merks refuse to learn, they will become the New Dumb, and they will die.

This is what happens when you play for money. No longer is it about playing the game for the purity of the game, of having parity and every game being a struggle for victory. Instead teams now want to guarantee their cheap wins by making sure weak teams are weak and their own team stays strong.
Mad, remember in summer when you'd pick teams for everyone? Did you do it to make even teams, or to load your own team with the best players. Wait, I already know the answer, bad example :-)
Purity of the game? Cheap wins? I guess you missed the Chicago/Arizona game earlier this year. That wasn't a cheap win for the Bears. It should not be the job of the league to ensure every team be competitive; this is the job of the Merks and their leadership.
